A New Chapter: CSCL Becomes Inclusion Chilliwack Society –
At CSCL’s 70th Annual General Meeting on June 11, 2024, the Society’s Membership approved a special resolution to officially change our name to Inclusion Chilliwack Society.
This meaningful change reflected the ongoing evolution of the community living movement—from its early focus on deinstitutionalization and supporting individuals to live in community, to a broader vision of full citizenship, inclusion, and belonging for people with developmental disabilities.
The new name better represented the work we do every day: fostering inclusive communities where everyone is valued and has the opportunity to thrive. It also aligned us more closely with our provincial and national partners, Inclusion BC and Inclusion Canada, and helped reduce confusion with similarly named organizations such as Chilliwack Community Services.
The transition to Inclusion Chilliwack Society marked not just a change in name, but a reaffirmation of our commitment to inclusion, innovation, and advocacy—values that have guided us for over 70 years.
In 2024, ICS was proud to co-present a powerful and thought-provoking exhibition at the Chilliwack Museum titled Our Journey for Inclusion: 70 Years of Innovation. Here is a video snippet of the tour, presented by Sarah Belley of the Chilliwack Museum and Archives:
